Tempered or toughened glass is a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. Tempering puts the outer surfaces into compression and the interior into tension. Such stresses cause the glass, when broken, to crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards as plate glass (a.k.a. annealed glass) does. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury.

In a simple term, a tempered glass screen protector is a perfect shield of your phone’s display. Technically a tempered glass made screen protector is a stronger form of a simple glass. As it is self descriptive by its name, it is particularly tempered to achieve the toughness and compressed form to be used in the areas, where safety is concerned. Besides it’s toughness, it has a tendency of dicing when it breaks. Dicing is a term which represents that a tempered glass at the time of its breakage will be converted into small less injurious pieces and these little pieces will not be blown out, instead they will be kept together without causing any harm and mess.

A good tempered glass screen protector consists upon the following layers.
·Oleo phobic Coating: protects against fingerprints, smudges, oils and other lubricants.
·Tempered glass.
·Silicon layer: in case of damage of tempered glass it prevents the glass pieces to fall out.
·Adhesive layer: to affix it properly on the phone.
·Additional protective membrane layer which covers the adhesive layer to refrain it catching the dust.
